What is a low voltage circuit breaker?
Low voltage circuit breakers, sometimes referred to as LV circuit breakers, are used for low voltage applications rated at less than 600 volts. There are a variety of low voltage circuit breakers, the most common types being molded case circuit breakers, miniature circuit breakers, and low voltage power circuit breakers. Miniature circuit breakers are used for lower amp ratings and are not adjustable, molded case circuit breakers can handle up to 2,500A and can be adjustable, while low voltage power circuit breakers are used in heavy duty applications, and are typically mounted in a switchboard, panelboard, or control panel.
Most low voltage circuit breakers are built with draw-out construction so they can be easily removed from an electrical system without interrupting or affecting the rest of the system.
Low voltage circuit breakers. Large-scale applications.
LV circuit breakers use a combination of thermomagnetic and electromagnetic trip mechanisms. Low voltage circuit breakers are most commonly used in the industrial and commercial sectors, protecting electrical flow in power generation centers, data centers, shopping centers, and other large scale buildings and applications.
