Medium voltage. High performance.
Medium voltage fuses carry voltage ratings anywhere between 1000V and 10,000V (or 1 kV and 1000 kV). Medium voltage fuses are also applied very differently than low voltage fuses, and are available in a much wide range of voltage ratings, whereas low voltage fuses typically either come as 250V fuses or 600V fuses. Furthermore, medium voltage fuses provide short circuit protection but are not meant to protect against overloads. As a much more sturdy and durable type of fuse, medium voltage fuses are designed to withstand the heavy demands placed on them by medium voltage applications.
Which medium voltage fuse is right for me?
Medium voltage fuses can be categorized as either an expulsion fuse or a current limiting fuse. In the case of a short circuit, a current limiting fuse will introduce a high level of resistance once the fuse element has melted, and then reducing the magnitude and duration of the current. On the other hand, an expulsion fuse utilizes gas and vapor expulsion mechanism to limit the duration of the current, but does not decrease its magnitude. Both current limiting medium voltage fuses and expulsion fuses are commonly used to protect feeders, transformers and motor circuits. While current limiting fuses can interrupt much higher currents, expulsion fuses are much more durable and fast acting.
