Rotary Disconnects

Rotary disconnects are used for both switching and isolation of circuits, across industrial and commercial applications. They are found in control panels and electrical panels across all sectors, though they can also be mounted on DIN-rail and enclosed. These disconnects can be used as a general purpose disconnect, but they can also serve as a motor disconnect.

The main difference however between a rotary disconnect and other disconnects is essentially the on off movement of the switch itself. Other switches use an up-down movement to indicate whether it is on or off, while rotary switches move to the left or right, using a dial.

Rotary switches are available in both fused and non-fusible models. They have the option of several padlocks to ensure only authorized use, and utilize bright colors so that workers and technicians know exactly whether the switch is in the on position or the off position.

There are also both open and enclosed style rotary disconnects. Enclosed rotary disconnects are notoriously rugged and extremely reliable. They are designed to withstand heavy industrial stresses and are built to prevent water and oils from entering. Open rotary disconnects are also used but they are rarely used on their own in the same way enclosed rotary switches are. They are commonly found in control panels and electrical panels.
