What is a contactor relay?
A contactor relay switch is a used for switching in low voltage, low current applications. They are commonly used for HVAC, air conditioning and lighting systems. Lighting contactor relays can switch multiple lighting circuits while also serving as a disconnect. HVAC contactor relays are controlled by receiving voltage from the thermostat in order to either heat up or cool down. When the relay stops receiving voltage, the circuits opens and the system stops running.
Types of contactor relays
While relays are the low voltage, low current relative of a contactor, that doesn’t mean they are any less capable. Contactor relays can control and switch either AC or DC circuits, with DC contactor relays and AC contactor relays being crucial components in electrical systems across a number of industrial applications. Both single phase and 3 phase contactor relays are readily available for installation in switchgear panelboards.
