The basics of IEC pilot devices.
IEC pilot devices and push buttons are used to indicate the status of or control a piece of equipment. Push buttons let the operator communicate with machinery while pilot lights let the machine communicate with the operator. All standard sizes of push buttons are available, including 30 mm, 16mm, and 22mm switches. Used across commercial, mining and industrial applications for HVAC systems, manufacturing, food processing and distribution and more.
Demand precision and performance from your push buttons.
The performance of IEC and NEMA push buttons do not differ much. Where they do differ is price point, design and standards. Unlike NEMA push buttons, IEC push buttons and pilots are governed by much stricter regulations. Like other IEC devices, IEC pilots are strictly rated by application. They also require their push buttons to be clearly marked with universally understood on/off symbols.
The IEC standards also enforce a color-coded system, requiring all their push buttons to be color-coded depending on their use and application. For example, a red push button is a emergency push button switch, a green push button engages equipment and turns it on, a blue push button is used as a reset switch and so on. The same color-coded system goes for IEC pilot devices and pilot lights. With IEC push buttons being larger than the mounting space in the panel, these mushroom push button switches also need to be mounted and secured from behind the panel.
