What do circuit breaker accessories do?

If you’re wondering, “Why do my circuit breakers trip?” you might need to bolster your circuit breakers with a few of the following accessories:

• Undervoltage releases, or UVR’s for short, protects the circuit breaker by tripping it when the voltage falls between a certain percentage range.
• A shunt trip is another optional protective device that can mechanically trip the circuit breaker since it is not powered by the circuit breaker itself.
• A trip unit is the mechanism inside a circuit breaker that opens the circuit in the event of an overload or ground fault. In some circuit breakers, this can be replaced.
• Rating plugs designate the amperages inside the trip unit in which it is installed. Each trip unit is only intended for use with a specific trip unit.
