Control your motors.
The same way lighting contactors control, handle and switch lighting loads, motor contactors handle electric motor loads and circuits with high current ratings. Electric motor contactors are used across commercial, agricultural and industrial applications including food processing, heating and refrigeration systems, with DC motor contactors being used in mills and other heavy duty applications rated up to 1000V. 3 phase motor contactors are also used for heavier electrical loads from 3 phase motors. Motor contactors have 3 main components: the contacts, used to carry the current, the coil, used to close the contacts, and the enclosure which houses it all.
Motor contactors of all shapes and sizes.
Available across a number of current ratings, motor control contactors can do more than just turn the motor on and off. A reversing motor contactor can make the motor rotate in the reverse direction while also switching it on and off, though the motor contactor wiring for these are more complicated. Reverse motor contactors can be used for inductive motors with current ratings up to 150A.
